Rene Riverol

In 1998, Rene Riverol joined Lerner & Piermont, P.A. (now Lerner, Piermont, Riverol & Lawlor) in Jersey City, becoming a partner in the firm in 2001. Rene has tried over one hundred petitioners’ workers’ compensation cases to successful conclusions, including Total Disability cases and Motions for Medical and Temporary Disability Benefits. He has also tried dozens of jury trials in automobile collision cases, fall down cases, and construction accidents to verdict on behalf of plaintiffs.

A highlight of Rene’s legal career was successfully obtaining a $2.4 million settlement for a mother and daughter injured in a collision with a truck. After three weeks of trial in Superior Court in Hudson County, the insurance company conceded and agreed to settle the case.

From 1990 to 1998, Rene was associated with the firm of Ledesma & Diaz, P.A., in Union City. There, he was responsible for all personal injury and workers’ compensation cases from intake through trial.

Biography

Rene was born in Placetas, Cuba. He came to the United States as a five-year-old with his father and mother. He grew up in West New York in Hudson County, where he attended public schools, graduating with honors from Memorial High School. He graduated from Montclair State University, where he received his B.A. in Political Science in 1985. Rene then attended Fordham University School of Law, where he was Vice President of the Latin American Law Students’ Association. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Fordham in 1988. He was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar and the United States District Court in 1988. Rene is fluent in Spanish.

He has been happily married to his wife for 36 years. They reside in Bergen County with their two children. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, golf, old movies, and traveling with his wife.

Awards

  • In 2017, Rene received the first-ever Workers’ Compensation Lawyer of the Year Award from the Hudson County Bar Association.
  • In 2013, Rene received the first-ever Excellence in Practice Award from the Hudson County Workers’ Compensation Judges.

Associations & Memberships

Rene was a Master of the Hudson Inn of Court from 2012 until the Inn’s dissolution in 2024. He was a member of the District VI Ethics Committee from 1997 to 2001. He is a past President of the North Hudson Lawyers’ Club. He is a member of The New Jersey Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Hudson County Bar Association, and the North Hudson Lawyers’ Club. Rene is also a member of the New Jersey Council on Safety and Health, a non-profit organization that fights for the rights of injured workers and their families.

Rene is a member of the Hudson County Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Committee and a former Trustee of the Bar.

Rene has lectured on Motions for Medical Benefits before the Hudson County Workers’ Compensation Judges and the bar. He has moderated a seminar before the Hudson County Bar Association on artificial disc replacement surgery.
